Minneapolis, Minnesota – Rain will begin spreading across central Minnesota by late Sunday evening, setting up a wet overnight that could impact the Monday morning commute with slick roads and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, a narrow band of light rain will affect parts of western and central Minnesota Saturday, but a more widespread system arrives after sunset Sunday, with rain chances climbing to 60% to 75% between 6 p.m. and midnight. The heaviest coverage is expected overnight into early Monday.

Cities including Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Cloud, and Mankato will see increasing rain after 7 p.m. Sunday, with steady showers continuing through at least 6 to 9 a.m. Monday. Highways such as I-94, I-35, and Highway 52 could become slick during peak travel hours, especially where rainfall persists into the early morning.

Temperatures will remain cool, with highs Sunday between 60 and 70 degrees before dropping into the 40s overnight. Monday highs will struggle into the mid-50s, limiting drying and keeping roads damp for much of the day.

Drivers should slow down on wet roads, allow extra stopping distance, and use headlights in low visibility. Charge devices and monitor alerts in case rainfall becomes heavier in isolated areas.

Rain is expected to taper gradually later Monday, but additional updates are likely as the system evolves and coverage expands across Minnesota.
