Omaha, Nebraska – Storms are expected to develop across eastern Nebraska by mid-afternoon Saturday, with impacts beginning as early as 2 p.m. and peaking during the evening commute, threatening slick roads and isolated power outages.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a line of thunderstorms will form from south-central to northeast Nebraska between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., then track east across cities including Lincoln, Omaha, and Fremont through roughly 8 p.m. Wind gusts could reach 58 to 65 mph, with isolated hail up to 1.75 inches, especially south of I-80.
While storms may weaken as they approach western Iowa, stronger cells are still possible in southeast Nebraska, including Beatrice and Nebraska City. Drivers along I-80 and Highway 75 should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during peak travel hours.
A second round arrives Sunday afternoon into the evening, with storms redeveloping after 3 p.m. and continuing past midnight. This round carries a higher risk, including damaging winds, large hail, and a low-end tornado threat. Rainfall may exceed 1 inch in localized areas, increasing the risk of brief street flooding.
Residents should secure outdoor items, monitor alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during active storms. Charge devices and ensure multiple warning methods are enabled, especially overnight Sunday into early Monday when storms may redevelop.
Storm chances continue into early Monday morning, with additional updates expected as timing and intensity become clearer.
