Louisville, KY – Thunderstorms and heavy rain are on track to hit central Kentucky and southern Indiana starting late Friday and continuing through Sunday. Residents along the I-64 and I-65 corridors, including Louisville, should prepare for possible severe weather, especially late in the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, scattered thunderstorms could begin Friday morning with increasing intensity through Sunday night. A strong low-pressure system will push through the region, bringing heavy rainfall and the potential for damaging wind gusts.
Friday’s forecast includes isolated thunderstorms by late morning and a high near 79°F. Winds will pick up from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph. Friday night turns calm, with mostly cloudy skies and a low of 61°F.
Saturday sees a 50% chance of early showers, especially around dawn. The rain increases to a 90% chance by the afternoon, with possible thunderstorms and a high near 75°F. Spotter activation may be needed Sunday afternoon into the evening.
Sunday will be the most active day. Widespread thunderstorms, some potentially severe, are forecast to begin after 2 p.m. Highs will reach the mid-70s before temperatures drop to the low 50s overnight. Showers continue into early Monday.
