Wichita, KS – Bitterly cold wind chills and light snow are set to impact central Kansas through Tuesday morning, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory. Wind chills may drop as low as -20°F in some areas, creating dangerous conditions for outdoor activities.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will remain in effect from 6 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday, covering portions of central and south-central Kansas. These extreme conditions are expected to bring frostbite risks within 30 minutes of skin exposure.
Light snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are also expected across south-central Kansas, including Wichita, Hutchinson, and Harper, which could create slick roads during the late morning and early afternoon hours on Monday.
Residents are urged to take precautions by wearing multiple layers, hats, and gloves. Travelers should exercise caution on snow-covered roads and prepare for delays. Temperatures are forecast to rise to near 30°F by Tuesday afternoon, offering some relief from the arctic air.
By midweek, milder conditions with highs in the upper 30s and 40s are expected, marking the end of this bitter cold snap.
