Wichita, KS – Residents across central Kansas should remain cautious today as patchy fog could reduce visibility and create slick roadways. With temperatures climbing to the 30s and 40s, some thawing is expected, but areas of freezing fog may linger through the morning hours, especially near bridges and overpasses.

According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog is already impacting visibility in portions of central and south-central Kansas. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and be alert for black ice, which may be harder to detect. Calm conditions will give way to slightly warmer highs this afternoon, with Wichita and Hutchinson expected to reach 36°F and 38°F, respectively.

The warming trend continues Thursday, with highs nearing 44°F. However, an Arctic front arriving Friday evening will bring dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills as low as -15°F. The bitter cold is forecast to last through early next week, with highs plummeting to just 20°F on Sunday. Snow flurries may develop late Saturday into Sunday, though accumulation is expected to remain light.

Those planning outdoor activities this weekend should dress in layers and limit exposure to the extreme cold. Frostbite can develop in minutes during such conditions.

Stay updated with the latest forecast and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of reduced visibility or freezing temperatures.
