Pittsburgh, PA – A winter storm is set to sweep through western Pennsylvania starting late tonight and continuing through Friday morning, bringing significant snowfall to the region. Residents should prepare for travel disruptions and potential hazardous conditions on the roads, particularly during Thursday morning’s commute.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin overnight, with heaviest accumulation occurring between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday. Preston and Tucker counties, as well as the ridges of Westmoreland and Fayette, are under a Winter Storm Watch. Snowfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are forecasted for higher elevations, while lower-lying areas may see lighter amounts.

Gusty winds are expected to create blowing snow, further reducing visibility for drivers. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours and to check road conditions before leaving home. Major roadways, including I-376 and Route 28, could see delays or closures.

Looking ahead, Thursday night will bring additional snow showers, although accumulation is expected to taper off. Temperatures will remain frigid, with lows dipping into the teens. Friday will be mostly dry, with a high near 34°F. Rain and possible snow are forecasted for Saturday, with precipitation continuing into Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to stock up on essentials, secure outdoor items, and monitor weather updates. Use caution when shoveling heavy snow to avoid overexertion.
