Seymour, Indiana – A brief tornado touched down in an open field near Seymour late Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service, causing little to no damage.

According to a preliminary storm survey from NWS Indianapolis, the tornado struck at 10:31 a.m. EDT in Jackson County and remained on the ground for less than a minute. Video footage submitted by a local resident confirmed the touchdown. The tornado was rated EF-U, meaning it caused no measurable damage, and had a short path length of 0.17 miles with a width of just 10 yards.

The twister touched down south of E County Road 300 N, east of Seymour and just west of I-65, an area consisting mostly of farmland. No injuries or fatalities were reported. Emergency services were not dispatched due to the isolated and non-destructive nature of the event.

While this tornado caused no disruption, NWS officials urge Hoosiers to stay alert during rapidly changing summer weather patterns. Brief, weak tornadoes like this can form with little warning—especially during pop-up storms or when cold fronts interact with unstable air.

No additional tornado activity is expected, but local residents should monitor future updates as thunderstorms continue in the region.
