Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is gearing up for potentially severe weather as flash flooding becomes a significant concern heading into the end of the week. Starting Thursday, the region is expected to see two rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding from Thursday night into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the heaviest rainfall will likely occur Thursday evening, particularly near the Illinois border. Rainfall amounts could range from 1.5 to 3 inches in central Indiana, with localized higher totals possible. Flash flooding remains a primary threat, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
In addition to the heavy rain, marginally strong to severe thunderstorms may develop Thursday night, potentially bringing damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to reach the mid-80s, with similar highs on Friday as the storms continue.
Residents are urged to stay informed of changing weather conditions and to be prepared for possible rapid water rises. The threat of flooding is expected to diminish by Friday evening, with drier conditions forecasted for the weekend.
