Champaign, IL – Central Illinois residents are waking up to a wet and windy morning as a wind advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. today. Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected along I-57, creating hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Rain will taper off by early afternoon, but motorists are urged to exercise caution on slick roads.

The week ahead brings more unsettled weather. Monday night into Tuesday will see another rain system, with up to an inch of additional rainfall possible. Daytime highs Monday and Tuesday will hover in the low 40s, but a sharp drop in temperatures will occur by New Year’s Eve. Tuesday night lows are expected to plunge into the mid-20s.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Day, residents should prepare for partly sunny skies and highs near 31°F, with colder nights continuing into midweek. Gusty winds and sudden temperature changes could impact outdoor New Year’s Eve plans.
