Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois is facing a few more days of intense heat, with temperatures peaking in the mid-90s through Saturday. Relief is anticipated by Sunday, with highs dropping slightly to the mid-80s to around 90.
According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, today will be particularly sweltering with a high of 92-95 degrees and heat indexes reaching 95-100. Nighttime lows are expected to be around 68-75 degrees. Storms may occur south of Interstate 70 tonight, offering some respite from the heat.
Sunday will bring partial relief as temperatures drop to 86-91 degrees. There is a 30% chance of storms, mainly in the southern regions. Lows will be more comfortable, between 66-68 degrees.
Monday will see a return to higher temperatures, with highs of 91-94 degrees and heat indexes between 90-100. Despite the scorching day, nighttime lows will range from 70-75 degrees, providing a slight cooling effect.
Tuesday’s forecast predicts the heat will intensify, with temperatures soaring to 95-98 degrees and heat indexes reaching 100-105. There is a 20% chance of daytime storms, and the best chances for rain will be Tuesday night, with a 60% likelihood of thunderstorms.
