Springfield, Illinois – Central Illinois is getting a welcome break from oppressive summer heat, with cooler temperatures and lower humidity creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities through the end of the workweek before hotter weather makes a comeback this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, afternoon highs will remain in the 70s on Wednesday and Thursday, well below recent temperatures. Most of the region will stay dry through Thursday, although a few showers and thunderstorms may develop Friday, mainly along and southwest of a line from Rushville to Springfield. Areas farther east are expected to remain dry.
Wednesday will feature sunshine with low humidity and highs ranging from 74 to 79 degrees. Pleasant conditions continue Thursday with partly sunny skies and highs between 76 and 80 degrees. Temperatures will begin climbing Friday, reaching 77 to 80 degrees, with isolated storms possible during the afternoon and evening in western portions of central Illinois.
The warming trend accelerates over the weekend as highs rise to 83 to 87 degrees Saturday before summer heat returns in full force Sunday, when temperatures are expected to climb into the 90 to 94 degree range. Humidity will also increase, making it feel much warmer than earlier in the week.
