Champaign, Ill. – Drivers across Champaign County may face reduced visibility Friday morning as patchy fog develops before 9 a.m., creating potentially hazardous travel conditions on rural highways. By late morning, sunshine is expected to return, marking the start of a stretch of warmer, drier weather across central Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, fog will be most widespread in low-lying areas and near fields, with visibility dropping under a mile at times. Winds will remain light from the northeast, shifting westward by Saturday.
Friday’s high will reach 83 degrees under sunny skies once the fog lifts. Overnight lows will dip into the low 60s before a warm-up Saturday pushes highs into the mid-80s. The weekend looks mostly clear, though gusty west-northwest winds up to 16 mph could develop Sunday afternoon.
Travelers are advised to slow down in foggy conditions Friday morning and use low-beam headlights. Once the fog clears, conditions will remain ideal for outdoor plans through early next week.
More sunshine is expected through Wednesday, with no rain in sight for Champaign or surrounding counties.
