Lincoln, IL – Warm weather will continue across central Illinois through much of next week, though residents should keep an eye on increasing thunderstorm chances beginning Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service office in Lincoln, temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal averages through at least Wednesday, June 3, with afternoon highs generally reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s across the region.

Saturday, May 30, is forecast to be the warmest day of the weekend, with highs ranging from 81 to 86 degrees under partly sunny skies. Temperatures will remain mild Sunday, June 1, with highs between 77 and 82 degrees.

Forecasters say a weather disturbance moving through the Midwest will bring a 30% to 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms Sunday night. Storm chances will continue into Monday, June 2, when highs are expected to climb back into the 80 to 86 degree range.

At this time, the National Weather Service has not highlighted a widespread severe weather threat for central Illinois, though residents should monitor updated forecasts as the system approaches.

Following Monday’s rain chances, warmer and generally drier conditions are expected to return. High temperatures are forecast to range from 78 to 84 degrees Tuesday and 78 to 85 degrees Wednesday, keeping much of the region in a summerlike pattern heading into early June.

Cities including Springfield, Bloomington-Normal, Decatur, Champaign-Urbana, Peoria and surrounding communities can expect several days of warm weather before any significant pattern change develops.
