Chicago, IL – Two 14-year-old girls died Wednesday evening in a UTV accident involving a grain hauler near Strasburg, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
According to State Police, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. A 2022 Polaris UTV with three 14-year-old female occupants was traveling south on County Road 3150 E when it disobeyed a stop sign at the intersection with County Road 1200 N, colliding with an eastbound 2006 International truck tractor grain hauler. One girl was pronounced dead at the scene, and another died later at a local hospital. The third girl was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the grain hauler was unharmed. State Police reported no further information at this time.
Stewardson-Strasburg Schools Superintendent Justin Deters confirmed the involvement of three incoming freshmen in the crash. Deters announced a support session at 4 p.m. in the school library and a community prayer vigil at 6 p.m. in the high school gym.
