Lincoln, IL – A persistent stretch of hot and humid weather is expected this week across central Illinois, with temperatures soaring into the 90s and heat index values pushing near 100°. Lows will only fall into the 70s, providing little relief during the nighttime hours.
According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, today’s high is expected to reach between 92° and 96°, with a heat index of 97° to 100°. Monday’s temperatures will climb to 93° to 97°, and the heat index could exceed 100°. Slight chances of afternoon thunderstorms are possible.
Tuesday will see highs from 89° to 93°, with the heat index again approaching 100°. The weather remains partly cloudy, with a slight chance of evening thunderstorms. Wednesday’s forecast is similar, with highs from 90° to 95° and a heat index of 95° to 100°. Thunderstorm chances increase slightly, particularly in areas west of I-55.
Thursday concludes the week with highs from 92° to 97° and a heat index of 97° to 100°. Isolated thunderstorms remain possible throughout the week, though widespread rain is not anticipated.
The National Weather Service advises residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and be aware of signs of heat exhaustion. Additionally, the slight chance of thunderstorms, particularly west of I-55, may bring brief periods of relief from the heat. However, the overall trend remains hot and humid, with significant cooling unlikely until after Thursday.
