Springfield, IL – Central Illinois is gearing up for a mix of weather conditions over the next few days, starting with isolated showers expected this afternoon. These showers will predominantly affect areas west and south of Springfield before more widespread showers and thunderstorms develop later tonight and continue into Sunday.
According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, while temperatures this weekend are expected to be slightly below normal, highs in the 90s will return as we transition from July to August. Today’s high will range between 85-88°F, accompanied by scattered clouds and isolated showers.
Sunday brings a 60% chance of thunderstorms with temperatures ranging from 80-84°F. The beginning of the work week will see a continuation of stormy weather, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms on Monday and a high of 85-88°F. By Tuesday, storms become more scattered, though some areas might still experience strong thunderstorms, with temperatures climbing to 90-92°F. The heat index will push these temperatures to feel between 97-105°F.
Wednesday will maintain the hot and humid trend, with highs of 90-93°F and a heat index reaching 100-107°F. The storms will be less frequent but could still be strong in some regions.
