Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois is bracing for a stretch of hot weather starting Sunday, with temperatures set to soar into the 90s and heat indices reaching near 100 degrees each day.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, the first few days will see highs from 85 to 90 degrees today and Saturday. Sunday will bring partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from 92 to 96 degrees. The heat index is expected to reach between 98 to 103 degrees on Monday, posing a risk for heat-related illnesses.

The National Weather Service also indicated that there is a slight chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday, which could provide brief relief from the heat. However, the overall precipitation chances remain low.

Residents are advised to take precautions during this period of intense heat. It is essential to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals are kept cool and safe.
