Central Illinois Faces Damaging Winds Tuesday

Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois is under a severe weather alert today, with damaging winds posing a significant threat. The National Weather Service has issued a level 2 severe weather risk for the entire area, emphasizing the potential for hazardous conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, the timing of the storms is still uncertain. Areas north of I-70 are expected to experience severe weather from mid-afternoon to evening, while regions south of I-70 should brace for evening and overnight storms. Damaging winds, with gusts reaching 60-70 mph, are the primary concern, alongside locally heavy rainfall.

Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The forecast does not anticipate tornadoes, but isolated hail up to the size of a quarter is possible. The weather service recommends having multiple ways to receive warnings and knowing where to go if severe weather strikes.
