Orlando, Florida – Strong storms are building across central Florida this afternoon, bringing dangerous weather conditions to cities including Orlando, Kissimmee, and Daytona Beach. Residents should prepare for gusty winds reaching up to 55 miles per hour and the possibility of coin-sized hail through 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the storms are developing southwest of the area and moving north-northeast, with the highest coverage expected between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Along with damaging winds and hail, heavy rainfall and frequent deadly lightning will be primary hazards. A 5% chance of hail up to one inch in diameter has been issued, along with a similar risk for wind gusts approaching 60 mph.
Areas along I-95, including Melbourne and Vero Beach, may see localized flooding due to the intense downpours. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and stay off highways if possible. Secure outdoor objects and remain indoors during lightning activity.
Storm threats are expected to taper off after 6 p.m., but additional warnings could be issued if conditions persist. Stay tuned to local alerts for the latest updates.
