Melbourne, FL — Breezy conditions and warm temperatures will dominate Central Florida today, but beachgoers and boaters face significant hazards. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Moderate Risk for rip currents at local beaches and a Small Craft Advisory for coastal waters.
According to the NWS, southerly winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph will produce choppy seas, making navigation hazardous for small vessels. Offshore seas are expected to reach 4-5 feet, while nearshore waters could see waves up to 2-4 feet. Residents are advised to exercise caution near the water and heed lifeguard warnings to avoid dangerous currents.
Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 70s today, with some areas, like the Treasure Coast, climbing into the low 80s. Skies will remain partly sunny with isolated light showers possible in the early morning. By Sunday, chances for thunderstorms will increase significantly, with a potential cold front moving through late in the day.
Looking ahead to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, expect cooler conditions, with highs in the mid-50s and gusty north winds. Showers will return on Tuesday, accompanied by wind gusts up to 30 mph and falling temperatures.
For safety, residents should avoid venturing far into the ocean and ensure boating plans align with updated weather conditions. Stay tuned to local forecasts for additional updates.
