Philadelphia, PA – A powerful winter storm is set to bring snow, freezing temperatures, and dangerous wind chills to the Philadelphia area starting Sunday. The storm is expected to deliver significant snowfall and hazardous conditions, especially along the I-95 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, snowfall totals could range from 6 to 10 inches northwest of I-95, with rates exceeding 1 inch per hour at times. Areas closer to the coast, including parts of southern New Jersey, could see lower totals due to a mix of snow and rain. Residents should prepare for challenging travel conditions throughout the day Sunday and into the evening.
Temperatures are forecast to plummet Sunday night, with wind chills falling below zero from Monday through Wednesday morning. Daytime highs will struggle to reach the teens, and overnight lows are projected to dip into the single digits or below zero. The coldest period will occur Monday night through Wednesday morning, with wind chills as low as -10°F across the region.
The National Weather Service warns of frostbite and hypothermia risks for those exposed to the cold for extended periods. Frozen pipes and increased demand for heating energy are also anticipated. Residents are advised to check on vulnerable neighbors, dress in layers, and limit outdoor activities.
Looking ahead, Monday is expected to be mostly clear but frigid, with highs around 18°F. Another chance of snow could develop Tuesday night before conditions begin to improve midweek.
