Melbourne, FL – The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and High Rip Current Risk for Central Florida’s coastal areas, including Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, Saint Lucie, and Martin counties. The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday to 2 p.m. EDT Sunday, while the High Rip Current Risk extends through Friday night.
Minor coastal flooding is expected along low-lying shorelines, parks, and roadways. While only isolated road closures are anticipated, drivers are urged to exercise caution and avoid traveling through flooded areas. Rip currents, combined with rough surf and a southward-flowing longshore current, present additional dangers for beachgoers.
Residents and visitors should heed local advisories and avoid entering the surf, as rip currents can quickly carry even experienced swimmers out to deeper waters. Those in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take steps to protect their properties from possible flooding.
