Hanford, Calif. – Triple-digit heat will grip parts of the southern San Joaquin Valley and Mojave Desert Friday into Saturday before a sharp cooldown settles in by early next week. Ridgecrest, Inyokern, and Boron face the highest risks, with near 100% chances of highs above 95 degrees through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, Bakersfield has an 80% chance of exceeding 95 degrees Friday, but those odds fall quickly to just 10% by Sunday. Farther north, Fresno and Hanford will also see hot afternoons Friday, though temperatures there are expected to drop off sharply by the weekend.
In the desert communities near Edwards Air Force Base, Ridgecrest and North Edwards will likely see several days of heat, with probabilities for 95°+ lingering into Sunday before fading. Mojave, meanwhile, looks to avoid the worst of the extremes, with Friday showing only a 55% chance of higher heat before dropping to zero the rest of the week.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor work during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers may provide relief where available.
Hot weather is expected to ease dramatically starting Monday, with most valley and foothill locations dipping back below 90 degrees for the rest of the week.
