Phoenix, AZ – A Flood Watch has been issued for areas south and east of Phoenix beginning Friday morning and continuing through Friday evening, with the potential for heavy rain and flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service Phoenix, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across portions of south-central Arizona on Friday, September 26, 2025, bringing the highest rainfall chances of the week. Forecasters warn that rainfall amounts could reach 1 to 1.5 inches, with isolated totals above 2 inches possible in stronger storms.

The Flood Watch covers parts of Maricopa, Pinal, and Gila counties, where runoff from rainfall could impact low-lying roads, creeks, and washes. The Weather Service cautions drivers to avoid flooded roadways and be prepared for sudden road closures due to water accumulation.

“Even a small amount of rainfall can quickly overwhelm desert drainage systems and washes,” officials said in Thursday’s update. Flash flooding, debris flows, and hazardous travel conditions are possible throughout the day Friday.

The Weather Service urges residents to review emergency plans, avoid driving through water-covered roads, and monitor updates as the storm system develops.
