Cedar Rapids, IA: Flood Watch Issued for Cedar River; Rising Waters Expected Through Tuesday

Cedar Rapids, IA – A flood watch has been issued for multiple areas in Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, as the Cedar River continues to rise following recent heavy rainfall. Residents should be prepared for potential flooding by Monday night, with waters reaching dangerous levels by early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, the flood watch affects Linn County in Cedar Rapids and Louisa and Muscatine Counties near Conesville. The Cedar River at Cedar Rapids is already nearing flood stage, with the NWS reporting water levels at 8.5 feet as of Friday evening. Flood stage for the river is set at 12 feet, with the possibility of reaching that mark early Tuesday.

In Conesville, flooding could occur as the river is expected to reach 13 feet by Tuesday morning, affecting Iowa Highway 22 and nearby parks. At 13.5 feet, water will flood low-lying areas and campgrounds just north of I-80 along the river. Flooding could also impact access roads, including 152nd Street north of County Road F70.

The NWS advises residents in affected areas to stay alert and monitor local news for updates. Further advisories will be issued by Saturday evening, as water levels continue to rise. With additional rainfall expected, flooding may persist through late Thursday morning.
