Milton Township, MI – A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Runkle Street and Anderson Road on Wednesday sent one woman to the hospital, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Behnke reported deputies were dispatched to the scene around 4:15 p.m. Investigation revealed that 49-year-old Gary Vargo of Dowagiac, traveling westbound on Runkle Street, failed to stop due to a downed stop sign. Vargo’s vehicle struck a car driven by 44-year-old Lauren Sampson of Niles, who entered the intersection traveling north on Anderson Road.

Sampson sustained injuries and was transported to Lakeland Niles Hospital. Vargo and three passengers were evaluated at the scene and released.

Authorities confirmed seatbelts were in use and stated alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash. Edwardsburg Fire Department and SMACS Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Officials urge drivers to stay alert for potential roadway hazards like missing signs, particularly in rural areas.
