Wilmington, NC – Boaters along the North and South Carolina coasts are being urged to stay ashore as Gale Warnings continue through 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Forecasters report northeast winds of 20 to 30 knots, with gusts up to 35 knots and seas building to 6–9 feet across coastal waters from Surf City, NC, to the South Santee River, SC—including Cape Fear, Little River Inlet, and Murrells Inlet.

The persistent onshore winds will create hazardous marine conditions through the night, with the strongest gusts occurring offshore and near coastal inlets. Officials warn that small vessels are at high risk of capsizing or damage due to the rough seas and reduced visibility.

Mariners are advised to remain in port, secure their vessels, and avoid open water until conditions improve. Winds and seas are expected to gradually ease by Wednesday morning as the coastal low shifts farther offshore.
