Carol Stream Releases 2024 State of the Department

Carol Stream, Ill. — The Carol Stream Police Department has released its 2024 State of the Department. This document outlines what the department has done over the last year. 

“Our mission to set the standard for integrity and excellence in all of our efforts remains the foundation of our sustainable success,” Chief of Police Donald Cummings said in the Letter from the Chief at the beginning of the document. “Through strong partnerships, open communication, and unwavering integrity, we continue to build trust and provide the high level of service our residents expect and deserve. The support of our village leadership, community stakeholders, and residents has been instrumental in our progress.”

Notable data from the document includes that arrests were down 29.7% from 2024 to 2023, with an 83% drop in drug-related arrests. However, there was an increase of weapons-related arrests by 66.7% and a 24% increase in arrests for criminal trespass. The department also made one murder arrest, which was an increase from 2023 where no murder arrests were made. 

Carol Stream Police noted that there was a 38% decrease in the number of traffic contacts from 2024 to 2023. A total number of 126 DUI arrests were made in 2024. The department reported a total of 744 traffic crashes. 

The document also outlines community outreach events the department took part in, including Adopt-a-Cop and the Fishing Derby.
