Capitan Home Invasion Turns Deadly, Four Suspects Arrested Across Three States

Capitan, NM – A Capitan man was shot and killed during a home invasion on July 28. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at 104 Aspen Trailer 18.

According to New Mexico State Police, the suspects posed as law enforcement officers. Daniel Hernandez, 29, Gabriel Thyberg, 41, Samuel Rey Duran, 30, all of Roswell, and Benisha Shanta, 33, of Capitan arrived at the residence armed with rifles. After forcing entry, they killed 44-year-old Nathan Ogden, stealing money and narcotics before fleeing the scene. Ogden’s girlfriend was present but unharmed.

Shanta was arrested in El Paso on August 5. Hernandez was apprehended in Roswell on August 6, and Thyberg was located in Albuquerque on August 9. Duran and his girlfriend, Angela Montoya, were also arrested in Albuquerque on August 30.

All suspects face multiple charges, including first-degree murder and armed robbery.
