ALBANY, N.Y. — Drivers across New York’s Capital Region are being urged to pull over or delay travel Wednesday night as a fast-moving snow squall sweeps through, dropping visibility to near zero and coating highways within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the squall was detected around 8:10 p.m., racing east at 35 mph and expected to impact Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga Springs, and Bennington County, Vermont, until at least 9:15 p.m. The storm is producing intense bursts of snow with gusts up to 35 mph, creating sudden whiteout conditions.

Major travel corridors are under immediate threat, including Interstates 87, 88, 90, 787, and 890, where rapid icing and near-instant loss of visibility have been reported from Rotterdam to Clifton Park. Emergency officials are warning motorists to slow down, use hazard lights, and avoid passing vehicles as the squall crosses the Hudson Valley.

Conditions are expected to improve after 9 p.m., but slick roads may persist into the late evening as temperatures drop below freezing. Additional snow showers could redevelop overnight, prompting further advisories if the squall line strengthens.
