Summerhill Township, Cambria County, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are renewing their call for information in a nearly 30-year-old homicide case, offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can help solve the 1996 killing of a local mother.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop A in Ebensburg, investigators continue to seek tips in the unsolved homicide of Beth Ann Bodenschatz, who was found shot to death inside her home on Sunday, January 12, 1996.

Police say Forest Hills Ambulance was dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to a residence at 1016 New Germany Road in Summerhill Township for a reported medical emergency. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Bodenschatz deceased in a bedroom, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The only known witness was Bodenschatz’s 5-year-old son, who told investigators he heard his mother arguing with a man before she began yelling. The child reported seeing a man with a gun and said the man shot his mother.

According to investigators, the child described the suspect as a white male with brown hair, wearing a brown jacket. Witnesses in the area also reported seeing a brown or beige Subaru-style vehicle parked at the end of the driveway around the time of the shooting. A white male was allegedly seen walking from the home toward that vehicle.

State police say the murder weapon has never been recovered, and no arrests have been made.
