Hanford, CA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Kern County, including the Grapevine, Kern River Valley, Tehachapi, and Frazier Mountain Communities, until 1 p.m. PST Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.

Snow accumulations of up to 5 inches are expected at elevations around 6,000 feet, while areas near 4,000 feet could see up to 3 inches. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions. Snow levels, currently at 7,000 feet, will drop to 3,000 feet overnight, increasing the likelihood of slippery roads.

Drivers should expect delays and difficult travel, particularly along mountain passes such as the Grapevine. The Thursday morning commute may be impacted by icy conditions and reduced visibility. Strong winds may also bring down tree branches, posing additional hazards.

Authorities urge motorists to slow down and exercise caution while traveling. For up-to-date road conditions, drivers can dial 511.

Residents in affected areas should prepare for winter weather by securing outdoor items, dressing warmly, and staying informed on potential changes in the forecast. The advisory is set to expire at 1 p.m. Thursday, but conditions could continue to affect travel beyond that time.
