Eureka, CA – A powerful winter storm continues to impact Northern Trinity, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to higher elevations through Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. PDT Sunday for areas above 4,500 feet, including Highway 3 near Scott Mountain. Snowfall totals could reach up to 24 inches, with wind gusts as high as 45 mph.

The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Roads may become slick and impassable, and tire chains could be required for vehicles traveling through mountain passes. Strong winds may also cause tree damage and power outages.

Authorities advise travelers to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511 for updates.

Drivers and residents in affected areas should prepare for delays and avoid non-essential travel during the storm.
