Medford, OR – A winter storm warning remains in effect for Siskiyou County, California, as a powerful system is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds through Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in place from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, affecting areas including Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir, McCloud, and Tennant. The storm is expected to drop between 4 to 8 inches of snow below 4,000 feet, with higher elevations seeing 12 to 18 inches. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph, potentially causing hazardous travel conditions.
Major routes at risk include Interstate 5 south of Weed, Highway 97 northeast of Weed, and Sawyers Bar Road west of Etna. Officials warn that travel may become very difficult to impossible, particularly during the morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could also lead to downed tree branches and reduced visibility.
Residents are advised to prepare for winter conditions by keeping an emergency kit in their vehicles, including extra food, water, and a flashlight. Travelers can check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting quickmap.dot.ca.gov for updates.
The storm will likely taper off by late Wednesday night, but lingering snow and wind impacts may persist into Thursday morning.
