Fresno, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to impact the Sierra Nevada mountains, including Yosemite Valley, bringing up to 4 feet of snow and dangerously strong winds through Thursday night. The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Thursday, warning of hazardous travel conditions and potential power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring 1 to 3 feet of snow above 4,000 feet, with localized totals reaching 4 feet at the highest elevations. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph, creating whiteout conditions and increasing the risk of tree damage and power outages.
Areas affected include Yosemite Valley, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, Shaver Lake, Grant Grove, and Huntington Lake. Travel could become very difficult to impossible, especially on mountain roads, and commuters should prepare for delays on Wednesday morning and evening.
Officials urge travelers to carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight, in case of road closures or unexpected delays. Road conditions can be checked by calling 511 or visiting the California Department of Transportation’s website.
Residents and visitors should prepare for potential disruptions and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas
