San Francisco, California – Strong, gusty winds are set to sweep across the Bay Area starting Friday, with coastal and interior regions bracing for peak gusts of 30 to 40 mph—and some spots topping 40 mph—through Sunday night. The most intense conditions are expected Saturday afternoon in San Mateo, where gusts could spike to 41 mph.

According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, the onshore wind event will escalate throughout the weekend. The strongest gusts will hit elevated terrain and coastline areas, including Monterey, Napa, and Oakland. Inland cities like San Jose and Concord will also see sustained gusts over 30 mph during peak hours between Saturday and Sunday.

Loose outdoor items should be secured by Friday morning. High-profile vehicles may experience hazardous travel along I-280, Highway 1, and other exposed roadways. Tree limbs could snap in wind-prone neighborhoods like Hollister and Livermore, where gusts are forecast in the 20–35 mph range.

This event marks one of the strongest wind episodes of the spring so far. Power outages are not expected to be widespread but remain possible, particularly in rural areas.

Winds will gradually taper off Monday, though gusts in the 20–30 mph range could linger into the evening. More updates may follow if additional advisories are issued.
