Santa Barbara, California – Drivers along the Santa Barbara coast and through the Santa Ynez Mountains could face hazardous travel Thursday afternoon as strong northwest winds sweep across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday for the southwestern Santa Barbara County coast and western Santa Ynez Mountains. Winds are expected to range from 15 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
The strongest impacts are likely along Highways 101 and 154, especially near Refugio State Beach, San Marcos Pass, and Gaviota, where high-profile vehicles may struggle with crosswinds. Officials warn of the potential for downed tree limbs, scattered power outages, and unsecured items being blown around.
Travelers are urged to use extra caution and delay non-essential trips if possible. Residents should secure outdoor furniture and prepare for possible power disruptions overnight.
Winds are expected to taper off by early Friday morning, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
