Eureka, CA – Snowfall is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across Northern Humboldt County beginning Monday evening, especially around Berry Summit Pass on Highway 299.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Monday, April 1, through 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 2. Snow totals of 2 to 3 inches are forecast at Berry Summit, with locally higher amounts possible over nearby peaks.
Drivers should prepare for slick roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses, where freezing conditions may develop faster. The advisory covers the Northern Humboldt Interior, including key travel corridors in elevated terrain.
Travelers on Highway 299 should exercise caution, reduce speed, and allow extra time. Chains may be required if conditions worsen. Officials urge drivers to check real-time road conditions by dialing 5-1-1 before heading into affected areas.
This late-season snowfall could pose travel delays for commuters and transport operators moving through the Klamath Mountains. While snowfall of this nature is not unusual for early April in the region, drivers should remain vigilant and heed all posted warnings.
