Eureka, CA – Northern California communities in Trinity, Mendocino, and Lake counties should brace for frost overnight as a weather advisory goes into effect early Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the Frost Advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. PDT Wednesday, May 14. Temperatures in affected areas, including Hayfork, Trinity Center, Covelo, and Potter Valley, are expected to drop as low as 35 degrees, potentially damaging unprotected outdoor vegetation.
The advisory targets Northern Trinity, Southern Trinity, Northern Lake, and both Northwestern and Northeastern Mendocino Interior regions. Valleys, particularly those at higher elevations, are forecasted to experience the coldest conditions during this timeframe.
Frost formation may harm or kill sensitive plants if left exposed. Residents are urged to cover outdoor vegetation or bring plants inside if possible. Gardeners and farmers in rural valleys should take immediate precautions to reduce exposure.
This late-season cold spell is unusual for mid-May, especially following recent mild conditions across Northern California. Residents should monitor local alerts and visit weather.gov for updates.
Stay alert and plan ahead to protect vegetation from potential frost damage.
