Chester, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to blanket parts of Northern California with as much as 4 feet of snow through Tuesday night, prompting a Winter Storm Watch for areas above 4,000 feet, including Chester, Quincy, and Blue Canyon.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the watch remains in effect from Sunday evening through Tuesday evening. The heaviest snow is expected Monday, with snowfall rates reaching 2 inches per hour. Snow totals of 1 to 3 feet are possible, with up to 4 feet on higher peaks. Gusty winds up to 55 mph could further reduce visibility and increase the risk of tree damage.

Travel may become extremely hazardous or even impossible in parts of the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County, especially during Monday’s morning and evening commutes. Snow levels are expected to fall to 3,000 feet by early Tuesday, bringing light accumulations of 1 to 4 inches to lower elevations.

Drivers are urged to check real-time conditions through Caltrans QuickMap at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or by dialing 511. Officials advise delaying travel if possible and carrying emergency winter kits in vehicles.

Residents should prepare now for possible power outages, road closures, and rapidly changing weather conditions.
