Hanford, CA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada region, including Yosemite National Park and Sequoia National Park, until 5 a.m. PDT Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford.
The advisory warns of additional snow accumulations of up to three inches and wind gusts reaching 45 mph. The affected areas include Huntington Lake, Wawona, Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, and Devils Postpile. Forecasters caution that these conditions will make travel hazardous, with slippery roads and limited visibility. The hazardous weather may also impact the Tuesday morning commute, and strong winds could lead to tree damage.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra travel time. The NWS advises checking road conditions before traveling by dialing 511 for real-time updates.
This winter storm comes as part of an active weather pattern impacting the Sierra Nevada, with higher elevations seeing the most significant snowfall. While snowfall totals remain relatively low, the combination of snow and wind increases the risk of dangerous travel conditions.
Residents and visitors in the affected areas should stay updated on the latest weather alerts and prepare for sudden changes in conditions overnight. Officials recommend carrying emergency supplies, including food, water, blankets, and tire chains, if travel is necessary.
