Sacramento, CA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Northern California, with significant snowfall expected through Thursday afternoon. Higher elevations in the Sierra Nevada and surrounding regions could see up to 16 inches of snow, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento, the advisory affects Burney Basin, Eastern Shasta County, Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. Snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches are forecasted between 4,000 and 5,500 feet, while areas above 5,500 feet may receive 10 to 16 inches of snow. A dusting is possible between 3,000 and 4,000 feet.

Snow levels are expected to remain above 5,500 feet Wednesday morning before gradually dropping to between 3,000 and 3,500 feet by Thursday. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated south of Interstate 80, increasing the likelihood of difficult driving conditions, travel delays, and chain controls.

Motorists are advised to check road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or dial 511 before traveling. The NWS urges drivers to slow down, use caution, and be prepared for slippery roads. The advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday.
