Los Angeles, CA – A late-night residential fire in Los Angeles on Wednesday claimed the life of one man and left five others injured after flames swept through multiple homes in the 12900 block of West Corcoran Street.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the blaze broke out around 9:02 p.m. and involved three one-story residences, with fireworks reportedly still detonating in the area, fueling the fire’s spread. Firefighters initiated a defensive strategy as the flames threatened nearby brush and structures. Knockdown was declared at 9:51 p.m., nearly an hour after the first call.

Authorities said the fire affected four primary homes, several attached and detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and a vehicle across four properties. One man, approximately 30 years old, was discovered deceased after the fire was extinguished. A 33-year-old woman suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital. Four other individuals were treated for smoke inhalation but declined further medical attention.

The incident also left several animals injured. California Highway Patrol officers rushed at least one injured dog to an emergency veterinary facility, while Los Angeles Animal Services responded to assist with additional animal rescues.

A gas leak was also discovered at one of the impacted homes, prompting a response from the gas company. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power addressed fallen live electrical wires at the scene.

Over 130 firefighters were deployed to combat the blaze, with assistance from specialized teams including the LAFD Arson Unit, LAPD Bomb Squad, HazMat teams, and the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team. The American Red Cross is providing aid to displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
