Hanford, CA – Central California residents should prepare for freezing temperatures this weekend, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Freeze Warning for the San Joaquin Valley and Mojave Desert. The warning will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday, with rural areas experiencing sub-freezing conditions as low as 30° in the valley and 25° in the desert.
According to the NWS, there is up to a 95% probability of freezing temperatures in the desert regions near Edwards Air Force Base and surrounding rural roads. This marks the first freeze of the season and is expected to signal the end of the growing season. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants and outdoor property from freezing conditions, as the sudden cold could cause significant damage.
Looking ahead, daytime highs for Sunday will climb to around 60° under sunny skies, offering a brief reprieve from the overnight chill. However, temperatures will dip into the mid-30s again Sunday night, with the next week remaining cool but clear. Monday and Tuesday are forecasted to see sunny skies with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the 30s, while warmer weather is expected midweek.
