California – Residents across the Central San Joaquin Valley should prepare for sub-freezing temperatures as a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday. Temperatures could drop as low as 28 degrees, creating potential risks to crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, the warning began early Sunday morning and covers areas including Hanford, Fresno, Delano, and Merced, as well as communities along Interstate 5. Widespread frost is expected during the late-night and early-morning hours through midweek, with the coldest conditions likely Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Residents are advised to cover or bring in tender plants, insulate exposed plumbing, and ensure animals have adequate shelter. Agricultural workers should monitor frost-sensitive crops as damage is possible without protective measures.
The five-day forecast shows mostly sunny days but cold nights with lows hovering near freezing. On Monday, daytime highs will reach around 58°F, while the night will drop to 33°F. Tuesday’s high is forecasted at 60°F, but another frosty night will follow, with temperatures plunging to 34°F. This pattern continues Wednesday, with clear skies during the day and temperatures warming slightly to 60°F.
By Thursday, frost chances diminish slightly, with overnight lows nearing 35°F. However, residents should remain vigilant as additional cold fronts could develop later in the week.
