Hanford, California – Dry conditions and gusty winds are combining to raise a minor fire risk across the San Joaquin Valley and West Side Hills through the remainder of the weekend. With temperatures soaring into the 90s and humidity dropping as low as 15%, the potential for grass fires remains elevated through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, relative humidity values are expected to stay between 15% and 25%, accompanied by northwest wind gusts up to 20 mph. These conditions, along with drying vegetation, create favorable circumstances for grass fire development, particularly in open and rural areas.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including avoiding the use of lawn mowers on dry grass and ensuring that no vehicle parts or chains are dragging along roadways. Authorities also recommend clearing brush at least 30 feet away from homes, following local burn bans, and keeping emergency supply kits ready.
While the current risk level is categorized as minor, fire officials warn that conditions can change rapidly. Updates will be issued as needed, and residents should stay alert through the weekend.
