El Centro, Calif. – Triple-digit heat will grip southeastern California this weekend, with temperatures soaring as high as 114°F in some desert regions from Saturday morning through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, an Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for Imperial Valley, Palo Verde Valley, Salton Sea communities, and surrounding areas. Daytime highs are expected to range from 104°F to 114°F, creating a Major Heat Risk for residents and outdoor workers.

Cities including El Centro, Blythe, Calexico, and Salton City are among the hardest hit. Heat-related illnesses like cramps, exhaustion, and even stroke are significantly more likely during this kind of event, especially for vulnerable populations. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration urges employers to adjust outdoor work hours and provide frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Residents should avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors without reliable cooling. Light clothing and early morning errands are strongly recommended.

The watch remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday. Further advisories or warnings may be issued later this week if conditions worsen.
