Petrolia, CA – A series of earthquakes occurred off the coast of Petrolia on Saturday, shaking the northern California coastline. The strongest of the quakes reached a magnitude of 3.7, recorded 108 km west-northwest of Petrolia, at a depth of 10 km.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.7, struck at 16:49 UTC, 28 km west-northwest of Petrolia, with a depth of 25.8 km. Just minutes later, at 16:24 UTC, a 3.4 magnitude quake occurred 26 km west-northwest of Petrolia. These seismic activities were followed by the largest quake of 3.7 magnitude at 12:17 UTC in the same region.
Residents in the surrounding areas reported light tremors but no significant damage. The region is known for frequent seismic activity, particularly due to its proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
