Malibu, CA – Malibu continues to feel the effects of yesterday’s 4.7 magnitude earthquake as aftershocks hit the area. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported an aftershock with a magnitude of 3.4 early Friday, six kilometers north of Malibu.
According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10.6 km, following the previous 4.7 quake, which struck on Thursday afternoon at 11.4 km depth. Numerous reports from residents indicated widespread tremors from both events. The “Did You Feel It?” map recorded over 800 responses from across Los Angeles County.
Experts are warning of potential aftershocks in the coming days. The USGS forecasts up to a 12% chance of another quake of 4.0 or higher within a week.
As the region braces for additional seismic activity, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant. Authorities remind everyone to review safety protocols, including securing heavy objects and having emergency kits prepared.
The aftershocks, though smaller than the main earthquake, can still cause damage. Community members are urged to continue reporting tremors on the USGS’s citizen science platform.
