Thermal, CA – A magnitude 2.7 earthquake occurred northeast of Thermal, California, early Sunday morning, according to the California Integrated Seismic Network.

The quake struck at 4:11 a.m. UTC (8:11 p.m. PT on Saturday) approximately 26 km (16 miles) northeast of Thermal, with a reported depth of -0.3 km, indicating a shallow tremor. No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been recorded.

Small earthquakes like this are common in the seismically active region of Southern California, which lies along multiple fault lines. Residents who felt the tremor are encouraged to report their experiences to the USGS “Did You Feel It?” program to assist with seismic research.

Authorities remind Californians to always be prepared for larger seismic events by securing heavy objects, having an emergency kit, and knowing safe spots within their homes.
